Rules You are to design and build a device that will safely deliver a valuable payload (a raw egg) intact when dropped from a height exceeding 2 meters. Engineers face similar challenges in areas ranging from design of a spacecraft such as the Mars Landar, to the design of automobiles, to something as simple as a protective case for a laptop computer. There are several guidelines you must adhere to when building your EDD (Egg Delivery Device). 1. The EDD can only be made from: -10 straws -1 plastic or styrofoam cuupp -4balloons -30cm x 30cm cardboard -shaving cream -tape -10 toothpicks 2. The egg must be visible and easily inserted and removed from the EDD. 3. The egg must be a white, raw, chicken egg, not coated with any substance. 4. Tastefully decorated egg containers will receive EXTRA CREDIT!!! You will receive credit for building your device and for writing a 1 page description of principles you incorporated into your design (include diagrams). Your paper must include an explanation of how your EDD limits the force of impact experienced by the egg. Your grade will be based on effort, creativity, and your ability to scientifically describe your device. The project is worth 25 points (15 for the EDD and 10 for the description - 2 points bonus for decorations). Happy building! |
